Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to my firm, and maintaining your trust and confidence is one of my highest priorities.  I respect your right to keep your personal information confidential.  CPAs, like all providers of personal financial services, are now required to inform their clients of their policies regarding privacy of client information.  CPAs have been and continue to be bound by professional standards of confidentiality that are even more stringent than those required by law.  Charles R Rives, CPA, PC has always been committed to maintaining client confidentiality.  I value our relationship and strive to earn your continued trust.  I hope that by taking a few moments to read this policy, you will have a better understanding of what the firm does with the information you provide and how it is kept private and secure.


Types of Information We Collect

We collect nonpublic personal information about you, but only when that information is provided by you or is obtained by us with your authorization.  We use that information in connection with providing tax and financial services to you.  This information is collected from you in written form, by phone, by mail and in personal interviews, and from others with your authorization.


Parties to Whom We Disclose Information

We do not disclose any clients nonpublic personal information obtained in the course of our practice except as required or permitted by law and Ethics Rulings of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).  Permitted disclosures include, providing information to our employees, and in limited situations, to unrelated third parties who need to know that information to assist us in providing services to you.  In all such situations, our third party providers understand and adhere to Charles R Rives CPA PC confidentiality standards.


General Restrictions on Disclosure of Nonpublic Personal Information to Affiliates and Nonaffiliated Third Parties

As tax preparers, we are prohibited by Internal Revenue Code Section 7216 from disclosing your income tax return information without your consent, other than for the specific purpose of preparing, assisting in preparing or obtaining and providing services in connection with the preparation of an income tax return. We will send any requested personal information only to you and the information will be transmitted by e-mail with your data encrypted and password protected.


Protecting the Confidentiality and Security of Current and Former Clients' Information

We retain records relating to professional services that we provide so that we are better able to assist you with your professional needs and, in some cases, to comply with professional guidelines.  All original documents are returned to you at the completion of our engagement.  In order to guard your nonpublic personal information, we maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with our professional standards.  These records are retained for a minimum of 7 years.  At the end of this period, paper information is shredded and our electronic data is deleted or written over to make it unrecoverable.


Your privacy, our professional ethics, and the ability to provide you with quality financial services are very important to my firm.
